Job Purpose

To safely and efficiently operate the Linear Accelerator (Linac) radiographic system to perform industrial radiographic testing (RT) in compliance with applicable codes, safety regulations, and company procedures. The role ensures the production of high-quality radiographic images, proper storage and traceability of films and digital records, and supports cross-functional NDT/QC activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate Linac and associated RT equipment per manufacturer manual, approved procedures, and NRRC & TCF EHSS regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare components, position films or digital detectors, and set exposure parameters to achieve required image quality.
  • Ensure radiation safety through proper area control, monitoring, and adherence to the Radiation Protection Program (RPP).
  • Handle film processing, storage, labeling, traceability, and protection from damage.
  • Maintain detailed records of exposure logs, film identification, technique sheets, and inspection results.
  • Perform regular radiation surveys, equipment checks, and preventive maintenance of Linac.
  • Interpret RT films, evaluate images, and report findings.
  • Participate in cross-functional NDT operations (MT, PT, UT) as required.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME, ASTM, API, ISO, etc.
  • Support internal and external audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Report malfunctions, safety issues, or nonconformities immediately.
  • Work with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for dose records and documentation.
  • Adhere to all site safety rules, QMS procedures, and environmental policies.

Job Requirements

Education

ITI / Diploma / Degree or higher in a related engineering discipline.

Certifications

  • ASNT / PCN / ISO 9712 Level II in at least four methods (RT, UT, MT, PT).
  • Previous Linac system training and certification preferred.
  • Radiation Safety certification (where applicable) preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of industrial radiography experience, with at least 1 year operating Linear Accelerator (Linac) equipment.
  • Experience in radiographic inspection of welds, castings, and forgings or heavy manufacturing sectors.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, inspection standards, and test procedures.
  • Proficient in operating RT Linac Equipment & UT, MT, PT NDE instruments.
  • Strong understanding of radiation safety principles, ALARA practices, and NRRC compliance.
  • Proficient in radiographic development, exposure calculation, and image quality assessment.
  • Skilled in film handling, storage, and digital record management.
  • Ability to work across multiple NDT methods (MT, PT, UT).
  • Knowledge of defect types typical in castings and forgings.
  • MS Office, documentation, and email communication skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
