**NDE TECHNICIAN (UT) – ULTRASONIC TESTING**

**JOB PURPOSE**
The ‘UT Technician’ will perform Ultrasonic Testing (UT) on cast and forged components to detect internal discontinuities, ensuring full compliance with client specification, internal quality procedures, international codes (e.g., EN, ISO, ASME, ASTM), TCF EHSS safety regulations. This role is critical for verifying the integrity of high-stress parts, maintaining meticulous inspection records, and providing cross-functional NDT activities including Radiographic Testing (RT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Penetrant Testing (PT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Visual Testing (VT).

**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
1. Receive and execute the day-to-day Ultrasonic Testing (UT) inspection schedule for production lines.
2. Maintain NDE Shop inventory stocks for NDE Consumables required for day-to-day operations.
3. Prepare detailed UT Scan Plan and Technique Sheets based on relevant code standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM, EN) and specific customer requirements to ensure 100% volumetric coverage.
4. Coordination and Technique explanation to the TPI, customers and auditors while UT audit or inspection.
5. Capable of recommending verification blocks preparation according to job, materials and specs.
6. Perform daily verification checks for NDE Method and preventive maintenance on transducers, cables, and flaw detectors to ensure system reliability.
7. Set up and calibrate NDE equipment and probes. This includes using calibration blocks to verify range, velocity, and sensitivity in accordance with written instructions and technique sheets.
8. Create and evaluate DAC (Distance Amplitude Curve) or DGS (Distance Gain Size) curves for existing blocks and technique sheet.
9. Perform & Ensure component surfaces are cleaned (removing scale, slag, or roughness) prior to inspection, following specific technique sheets to ensure optimal sound transmission.
10. Evaluate and interpret ultrasonic signals to characterize discontinuities such as porosity, shrinkage, cracks, or laps based on acceptance criteria.
11. Maintain detailed and UT Inspection log and report uploading on MES System.
12. Maintain detailed and accurate records of calibration, inspection logs, scan plans, data files, and inspection results, ensuring full traceability to the specific melt or heat number and uploading on MES System.
13. Arrange materials in designated safe locations, ensuring the shop floor remains compliant with Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) protocols.
14. Ensure all inspection activities comply with applicable international standards (ASTM A609 / EN ISO 12680, ASTM A388/ EN ISO 10228-3) and specific customer technical specifications.
15. Cross-Functional Support: Participate in other NDT operations including RT, MT, PT, and VT when required to support the overall production schedule and quality flow.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
1. EDUCATION: ITI/Diploma/Degree or Equivalent discipline.
2. CERTIFICATIONS: ASNT Level II in at least Four methods (e.g., RT, UT, MT, PT). ISO 9712 will be preferable.
3. EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5-8 years of industrial Ultrasonic testing experience, with at least 5-year casting industry experience. Forging experience will be an additional benefit. Previous GE Equipment training and certification preferred. Ability to understand NDE codes such as ASME, ASTM, ISO and EN standards. Proficient in operating GE Krautkramer & RT, MT, PT NDE instruments. Ability to work across multiple NDT methods (RT, MT, PT, UT).
4. TECHNICAL SKILLS: Ability to interpret engineering drawings, inspection standards, and test procedures. Strong understanding of UT principles and DAC & DGS curves. Ability in UT inspection, interpretation, and reporting. Knowledge of defect types typical in castings and forgings. MS-office, documentation, and Email communication skills. Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
5. OTHER SKILLS: Attention to detail and strong observation skills. Hands on working experience in MS office. Good communication and reporting abilities. Physically fit for fieldwork and capable of working in confined spaces or elevated positions, when required.
